Frances Trombly participating in Warp & Weft at The Frank

July 22, 2021

The City of Pembroke Pines and the Frank Art Gallery are pleased to present ‘Warp & Weft: Illuminating Seams of Cultural and Conceptual Articulation. In celebration of The Frank’s public reopening, Warp & Weft will be on display from July 15, 2021 – September 25, 2021.

The City of Pembroke Pines and Frank C. Ortis Art Gallery present Warp & Weft, an in-person exhibition showcasing contemporary fiber techniques and works of diverse media that engage rich textile traditions. From saturated tapestries woven from paper to paintings inspired by ethnographic textile motifs, the works in this collection function as vital visual documents encoding deliberate responses to notions of identity, class, gender and belief. Each work is presented as an evolved matrix of meanings and materials; an intricate system of correspondences punctuated by personal data and permeated with evidence of hand and body. Exhibiting artists include Pip Brant, Regina Durante Jestrow, Amanda Madrigal, Evelyn Politzer, Santiago ‘Chago’ Rodriguez, Lorenzo Hurtado Segovia, Carrie Sieh, Kim Spivey and Frances Trombly.

The Third Space Gallery at The Frank will highlight works by selected artists of Fiber Artists-Miami Association (FAMA), an artist-initiated group dedicated to the advancement of contemporary fiber techniques and textile arts. The Frank Aisles will host a solo exhibition by Michelle S. Drummond.
The Opening Reception for Warp & Weft will take place on Thursday, July 15, 2021 from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM. Free to the public. Complimentary refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served. Mask-wearing strongly encouraged.
