Judd Schiffman
b. 1982 Providence, Rhode Island
Judd Schiffman’s artistic practice traverses mythological symbolism, personal introspection, and spiritual exploration.
Judd Schiffman
Judd Schiffman’s ceramics explore the complexities of masculinity, self-discovery, and family. His work is inspired by his journey as a father and the folklore of Mothman, blending the personal with the mythical. As a father, Schiffman is navigating one of the most profound transitions in his life, and his art reflects the intricate dynamics of fatherhood, expressing both the challenges and the tenderness he experiences within his family.
Inspired by his life with his seven-year-old daughter Franny and his wife Athena, Schiffman’s work is deeply rooted in the domestic realm. He incorporates relics from his home environment and draws from depictions of imaginary animals found in museum collections, art books, and folklore. These figures become the central characters in his artistic narrative.
