Emerson Dorsch hosts A Very AIRIE Evening

April 21, 2018, 7-10 pm

Join us at Emerson Dorsch as we raise funds for the AIRIE artist residency in the Everglades National Park, and the exhibition and programs that are inspired by creative work of the AIRIE Fellows. Musical interventions and artistic encounters will celebrate the heritage of the Everglades and local Haitian community.

Celebrate Earth Day 2018 with AIRIE, as we unite in our love and concern for the Everglades, the natural environment of South Florida, and our conviction to preserve it. Along with your benefit ticket, purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win original artworks by AIRIE Fellows.

Valet parking will be available, along with security.

AIRIE advocates for the protection of the Everglades through the vision and voices of contemporary artists. Your support makes it possible to offer opportunities for visual artists, composers, poets, and choreographers to immerse themselves in this mesmerizing wilderness, absorbing its beauty, history and challenges. To learn more about the residency see AIRIE’s quick video.

This month, Emerson Dorsch sculptor Robert Chambers is currently in the AIRIE residence, exploring sites in the Everglades where hints of early 20th century landscape interventions remain. He intends to produce large-scale sculptural works that mimic the forms and physical processes of the objects of his research such as the environmental engineering required to “drain the swamp” in the early 20th century, and the scars that were left on the landscape. His introduction to AIRIE started with out with our Think Tank in Big Cypress, and continued last weekend with a research field trip to the headwaters of the Everglades with Florida Audubon and Archbold Biological Station. The resulting works will be on view next winter in the AIRIE Nest gallery.
